My word for the year (and some prompts to help you discover yours)
I don't set resolutions anymore. I craft plans. I don't make goals. I draft dreams. And I choose a word each year that I hope will encapsulate my plans and my dreams.
In 2021, my word was brave. Which went on to kickstart a whole new way of doing this work that feels absolutely aligned.
A few weeks back in at my Mind-Boarding Experience (Vision Board Workshop on steroids) I began trying on different words. I landed on a few like, "tenacious", "possible", and "trust, which really spoke to my ongoing desires, but something was off. Tenacious and possible are powerful words. It speaks to not easily stopping, to be firm or strong and continuing for a long time. Possible, speaks to trust, train, and ample doses of faith. I have a big year ahead and I thought I needed a word that spoke to my underlying fears like, "Who am I to have this?" "What if it falls apart?" and "What if I can't sustain my business and it fails when it matters the most?" and the doozy, "What is I am not enough for what's to come?"
I realized that the above words would be a constant asking for more and more validation and affirmation. At some point, I have to look for the reasons it definitely will work out and put my trust to work and when I am in that place of trust, there is only one obvious next step: commit.
My word for 2022 is commitment.
Commitment is... believing in the path I am on as a mutual partner in what's to come and means I have to go all-in on myself.
Commitment is... the thing I am the benefactor of in so many ways: partnership, ideas, creativity, play, dreams, and all the people like you, I get to serve.
Commitment is... what I think we all must choose if we are going to make a dent of a difference for ourselves and people around us.
Commitment is... my work through and through. I can think of no better work to contain the practice of coaching than this. We are always receiving what we are committed to.
Commitment is... the greatest respect I might bestow my aspirational self.

I leave you with a quote from Goethe:
Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative and creation. there is one elementary truth that ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: That the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. a whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one’s favour all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamed would have come his way. Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it. Begin it now! – Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
To your Empowered Year!
